In a past episode of Aiba’s radio program, a listener asked about bathing, “Aiba-chan really likes taking baths right? Do you have ways to make baths even more fun?" 

Aiba-chan says that he doesn’t add bath salts or anything, but sometimes he would dive into his bathtub. He would soak and brush his teeth at the same time, and then dive and play around for about 20 minutes. This is probably a habit from he was young when he would try and see how long he can hold his breath under water. 

However, now that he’s all grown up, Aiba-chan also does muscle training in his bathtub. 

He would turn on the shower and do 50 sets of push-ups, as well as train his chest muscles. ”This looks really dumb, but I do it because I don’t like sweating.“ 

Ohno-kun talked about recording his solo song “Imaging Crazy” in Arashi’s new album THE DIGITALIAN on his radio show recently. According to him, recording the song was really a lot of work because he sang everything in the song. 

If you look closely at the lyric booklet, it does say “All Chorus Work by Satoshi Ohno”. 

Usually when recording songs, Arashi would sing the melody and or parts. Sometimes they would harmonize one another, other times there would be other professional harmonizers. However, for this song Ohno sang every single part. 

“So there is’t the main melody. And there are about two lines of harmony above and two below. And then there are some that are slight variations of the melody line. It was endless recording.” It seems like he even did all of the complicated choral parts for his chorus all by himself. 

“If you listen closely, you can hear different aspects of my voice. I think it would be fun. This is very rare, to have one person harmonize all by himself. It was hard work but it was really fun.”

On the previous broadcast of Nino’s radio BAYSTORM, he talked about how he’s currently into Vocaloid songs, “It’s amazing. It’s really fun. I am a weirdo when it comes to hobbies so I don’t really want to tell anyone, but it’s fun. At night I’m always listening to Vocaloid. Recently I’ve been listening to nothing but Vocaloid.”

“To be exact,” he says, “I listen to people who cover Vocaloid songs. From there I search and listen to the originals. And then there was someone that I wanted to play for me on my solo song. Digitalian.”

Vocaloid cover artist “Marasy” cover Vocaloid songs on his NicoNico Channel. Nino was so into his music that he had invited Marasy to join him on his solo song “Merry Christmas” for Arashi’s new album THE DIGITALIAN. 

Nino explained, “I was thinking about what exactly DIGITALIAN meant, and what kind of people are ‘digitalized’, or immersed in a digital environment, or aim to be digital. And because he is someone that took digital and put it back into analog, I thought I’d ask him to play piano." 

It seems like Nino is pretty into Marashy and Vocaloid music these days. I’d love to have a Ninoloid…

On a previous episode of Nino’s radio program BAYSTORM, a listener asked, “On Music Station, it seemed that Sho-kun and Satoshi-kun had matching necklaces and bracelets. Did they buy it themselves? Did you buy anything matching accessories with the other members?”

Sadly for Yama shippers, Nino responded, “I think the accessories were prepared for us? I also got one but it was broken so I couldn’t open it up to wear it and left it aside.”

On whether he bought any matching items with the members, Nino said, “I didn’t buy anything. I didn’t even really spent any money.”

For the 10 days he spent in Hawaii, he had only 1 day off on the day before the live stream for Music Station. As he had revealed on the TV program, “I was always in my room. I can only remember how the wallpaper in my room looked like, since I was always at the desk. I had to memorize my lines.” the hardworking idol said, referencing his upcoming role in next year’s special drama ’Murder on the Orient Express“. 

On last week’s BAYSTORM, a listener asked Nino, “On Sakurai Ariyoshi Abunai Yakai, it seems like Sho-chan has been using the same wallet and bag from way before his debut. Do you have things that you’ve been using from long before you debut as Arashi?”

Nino replied that he has been wearing the same clothes and shoes since before debut. (Does this man grow?!) However, he did get a new wallet. He said that his mother told him to get a new one, but because wallets are lucky items so he shouldn’t buy his one. In the end, he was told that he should get someone to buy one for him and then put 10,000 yen in it as a present. 

It seems that Nino is actually quite superstitious, “Yellow is a good color for wallets right? Because yellow brings good luck for money. But I really don’t do yellow,” he said. 
 
He explained that fashionable people might be able to carry off yellow wallets, but if he had one, it would probably not look nice on him. In fact, because Nino’s color in Arashi is yellow, he had the same trouble, “I don’t why my concert outfits are always yellow," he complained, "Whenever I wear a yellow T-shirt people would tell me, ‘you really like yellow don’t you?’ If I had a yellow wallet on top of that, it’d be the worst thing ever. Never.”

Nino clarified, “I don’t dislike yellow. Nor do I dislike things with yellow in them. But I just cannot use things that are yellow.” he laughed, “Yellow is like the color of a person who made it big.”

“ Since I didn’t make it big because of yellow, it’s irritating to have so many of those lying around at home." 

Don’t know if he’s humble or ambitious…lol Nino. If you didn’t make it big then who did?!

A listener asked Nino is he is the type that tends to worry, to which Nino replied, “Not really I think. I have never been perturbed by something so much that I cannot focus on work and cannot settle down." 

There are also times where he could ask friends out for meals, and go to the restaurant directly after work, only to find out when paying that "Ah! I don’t have my wallet!” He says that if he didn’t decide on going out the day before, he wouldn’t bring his wallet. 

Especially on the days where he films for dramas, he would only go between his house and the filming location, so he wouldn’t walk around with his wallet. If they feel like going out for dinner and such, he would have to ask his manager to “stop by a bank” on the way. However, there are times where he would go to the bank and find that he forgot to bring his wallet. 

About his lifestyle, Nino says, “I never think ahead. Because I don’t think ahead, I don’t worry." 

And then he spoke about when he was at home. It is common for people to routinely check their windows before leaving the house. However, Nino says he never has to worry, because he almost never opens his windows, and never boils any water on his stove either. Apparently, he has never even boiled water in his house so he has no use for pots and pans and as a result even sent those back to his parent’s house. He says that he only boils water in shallow frying pans.

On this day Oh-chan answered questions from listeners. As his drama “Shinigami-kun” had just finished there were tons of questions about it. 

First: Was the crab in the first episode real? (in the first episode Shinigami-kun had sat on top of a closet and munched on a crab)

Ohno said, “That was real except for one part.” Oh-chan was made to look like he was crunching on the shell of the crab, but actually, the part he was eating was made out of candy. 

“It was real! They made a lot of it just in case. They also made shelled-scallops out of candy, even though we didn’t use it in the end." 

The second question was: Is the shirt you are wearing under the suit long sleeve or short sleeve?

Ohno replied, "I wonder when it was? For the 4th episode where we filmed in the studio it was really hot so I had a short-sleeved shirt.”

The third question was: Won’t your hat fly away?

“When I am hanging upside down, I would wear a swimming cap and put the hat on top of it. It becomes really tight and surprisingly the hat doesn’t fall.”

The last question: You got punched by Kiritani Mirei’s character many times and it looks real. Was it you or an extra?

It turns out that Ohno really did get hit by Kiritani Mirei that many times (and more). Sometimes she would actually accidentally hit him and she would apologize. In the scene where she hit him with flowers after he tried giving them to her, he really did get hit. Every time he would get hit by Kiritani, coupled with verbal abuse and cursing, but Ohno said, “Surprisingly I actually quite like those kind of scenes." 

He ended by saying, "I like acting scenes where I get punched, so I guess I am M. Please call me M.”

On the 7/1 broadcast of Oh-chan’s Arashi Discovery, a listener asked, “Which color is Oh-chan attracted to?" 

Riida replied, "I like blue. Even my color in Arashi is blue.”

He says that there are a lot of different kinds of blue, and whenever he draws, he would use blue in his art. Furthermore, he has a lot of clothes in blue, and whenever he sees paint in a nice blue, he would buy it. 

When he used to live with his parents, his mom once put up blue curtains and blue bedsheets in his room, too. He said, “It makes me calm and I can sleep tell." 

Now that he has finished his drama Ohno has started painting again. He says that he will definitely have a painting with blue in it. He ended the program by saying, "When I’m done, I’ll tell you all where I used to blue in." 

On the June 30 broadcast of Oh-chan’s Arashi Discovery, a listener asked Ohno what he would do if he had the chance to be just a regular person for a day.

Ohno said that if such a day were to come, he would definitely go out. He would skip about with a smile on a face and go to a fancy open-air cafe to drink coffee and laugh out loud by himself. 

After that, he would go to a clothing store and try on clothes in the dressing room, and ask the shop owner if the clothes match him. At night he would go to a loud and crowded restaurant and find a salaryman who is by himself, make friends with him, drink and skip all the way home. 

He says that it reminds him of when he went to New York. At that time, he didn’t have to wear glasses or hats and could walk around like anyone else. At that time he could laugh and walk and take lots of pictures and nap in the park. 

He added, “If I were to be a regular person for a day, I would probably take a nap in Yoyogi park.”

Lastly, he said, “I want to be a salaryman for a day. I’ll probably get scolded for not getting anything done all day though.”

somehow this just feels so…heart-wrenchingly lonely.

On the 22nd June broadcast of Nino’s radio “Bay Storm”, he talked about what Arashi members did for him on his birthday which was on June 17.

Apparently he only got a text from Aiba-kun, but not anyone else. However, the 5 of them did meet on the same day for work, during which Matsujun and Sho-kun both gave him birthday presents. (But didn’t get a present from Aiba-kun) “I didn’t get anything from Ohno-san”. He added, “I don’t know why but Ohno-san is late every year. I guess he’s at the age where he forgets.”

He added that he had spent the moment he turned 31 on the set of his drama “Yowakute Katemasu’ filming.

The quote of the day was a Japanese idiom about trying one’s best and working hard. And so Riida started talking about working out. 

He said that now that he no longer works out, his body is all soft and flabby. He used to do sit us and push-ups, but now he doesn’t do them. He does 30 of each exercise during concert tours. 

However, Oh-chan says that even though he doesn’t work out now, when he flexes, he still has abs.

“I am a little proud of it. Isn’t it cool?”

Oh-chan says that he tries not to work out as much as he can and wants a body that’s only for looking. He wants to become something like a cat. Even though a cat is always sleepy, when it finds a prey, it will have an outburst of energy. “Wouldn’t it have muscle cramps?” Riida wondered. 

He ended by saying, “I will try to keep my body looking nice while working out as little as possible. I am sorry if my body looks shabby at the concert in Hawaii.”

Some awesome people have posted up the bit from this week’s Aiba radio about how the 23 on his GUTS! M-Sute jersey actually alluded to “Nino-san”. However, the part that touched me the most was actually the opening and I thought I’d like to share it.

A: Eh? Fuku-chan????

C: “I am the one that asked for your advice during the Tokyo Live Program”

C: During the second broadcast of Tokyo Live…

A: It’s the Fuku-chan that said to me, “Kon-Aiba!”. Fuku-chan how are you doing?

C: “Thank you for your help the other time. I am really grateful that you remembered me”

A: Of course I do!

C: “Once again, thank you for the Tokyo Live broadcast”

A: No no no. I should thank you.

*Fuku-chan is a 44-year-old woman who wants to lose weight and become more attractive like Dan Mitsu for her husband. In the end, Aiba told her to show the segment to her husband, who said warmly, “are you an idiot?” in a joking manner. She wrote to Aiba thanking him and say that even though her diet didn’t work out and she couldn’t become like Dan Mitsu or Ishihara Satomi, it seems like her husband still loves her very much and she will be able to grow old with him for a long time*

Not only does he help a fan out during a live TV program a month ago, he also did not forget her and got really excited to hear how things turned out with her husband. This angel…*sobs*

This is from the January 28 broadcast of “Arashi Discovery” (Fm yokohama)

Ohno talked about his current art project. He has been drawing with art pens that art capable of drawing lines as thin as hair. Even though it’s meticulous hard work, when the art is complete, it becomes really interesting.

He has been working on the same piece since 5~6 years ago. However, it becomes more and more detailed as time goes on and is still not complete. For example, he would draw dots in a small circle, and then do a sketch inside the circle. He commented, “It’s difficult but I really want to do it.”

Recently, he has started drawing lines with dots and it takes even more time. “It takes too much time! I can’t do this anymore! I thought that and couldn’t continue.” This piece of work is still not good enough so Ohno feels that he cannot reveal it yet. “I am going to do this until it finishes. I don’t know what it will look like or when I will be done but when I do, I will definitely want to show it.”

On this day, a listener asked Ohno, “Ohno-kun writes in a diary everyday without fail. What is your diary like?”

Ohno, who once said that he has to write in his diary everyday, revealed that he has actually stopped since last summer. However, he added that, “I regret it. I stopped for one day and then I couldn’t continue anymore”.

The reason why he writes a diary is because he wants to be grateful and return the favor to those who has helped him. He used to think that when he’s 50 or 60, he would want to drink and read his old diaries. However, he also added that people usually write the most memorable things in one day in a diary, and so instead he wrote about the most trivial things because those are the little things the people tend to forget. Furthermore, if he has nothing particularly memorable to write about on that day, then he would think, “I did too little today”, or “I need to do something”.

He also likes to reminisce. “It’s better to write it all down now instead of regretting not when you’re 50 or 60 and you don’t remember anything. It’s fun for when you get older”, he added, “I will start writing again. It’s quite tiring, and I can’t really remember anything after 3 days, but it is really fun after waiting for some time and reading it again.”

Arashi’s leader Ohno Satoshi has always been seen as a rather mysterious figure. Few know about how he is off-camera, and one of those privileged few is NEWS’s Kato Shigeaki. Both of them enjoy fishing, and their friendship have gone beyond just the typical Johnny’s senior-junior relationship.

On his own radio program “Sorashige Book” (FM Yokohama), Kato described a personally shocking episode related to Ohno that occurred last year on November 26, Ohno’s birthday. When he sent Ohno a “happy birthday” message, it wouldn’t go through. He tried again with a shorter message and it still didn’t go through. Because he really wanted to send the message, Kato decided to pull some tricks. (the ridiculously funny episode was mentioned previously by Ninomiya and Ohno himself)

He said, “Who do you think would definitely know Ohno-kun’s phone number? There is only one person. The owner of the ship. The owner of the ship that the two of us take to go fishing. The owner must know!”

The owner of the ship is the person who’s taken care of the two idols when they go on fishing. He often sends information on fishing seasons to the two of them. Kato though, “Ohno-kun definitely wants the fishing information, so he will definitely tell the ship owner his new phone number.” and so he sent a message to the owner asking for Ohno’s new phone number and sent Ohno the birthday message, “I couldn’t send you a message because you changed your phone number so I asked the owner for it. Happy birthday! Sorry I went to ask for your number.” and instead Ohno apologized profusely.

However, as a Johnny’s who has even stayed over at Ohno’s house, Kato felt sad that he even lost to the ship owner in terms of how close a friend he is to Ohno.

And now Kato has a brand new problem: He is currently costarring in “Shitsuren Chocolatier with Matsumoto Jun but he still doesn’t have his number. He is still deciding when the best time to get his number.
